Come play outdoors!
If the great outdoors is your favorite playground, you have found one of the BEST PLACES to live in the United States! There is no other place that has the proximity and instant access to water and mountains like Seattle and Bainbridge Island. The sparkling waters of Puget Sound are wedged between the Cascade and Olympic Mountains with majestic Mt. Rainier (14, 410 ft) the patriarch icon. I am quite serious about my outdoor activities in all 4 seasons and that is why I chose Puget Sound for my home. I wanted big mountains and water in the same place. If you enjoy sailing, skiing, climbing, biking, kayaking, scuba diving and hiking, you have come to the right place. I can steer you in the right direction (and secret stashes) for any of these adventures! There are too many to mention so I will share some of my favorites...
Sailing & Boating
Shhhhh! Please don’t tell anyone that summers in the Pacific Northwest are better than anywhere else in the world! And there is no better place to be than out on the water with Mt. Rainier (14,410 ft.) looming above. Cruising extends from Olympia to the San Juan Islands and further up the Inside Passage through Canada all the way to Alaska. Sailing is a year-round event for many with races scheduled every month of the year. I race casually every Wednesday and race on other boats throughout Puget Sound.
Sea Kayaking or White Water….both are world class! On Puget Sound, you can enjoy peaceful calm waters in harbors or challenge yourself with a multi-day adventure on the famous Marine Trail from South Sound to Canada. Experienced kayakers can test their mettle out on the Olympic Peninsula Coast. Our rivers run cold and fast but there is no shortage of amazing whitewater throughout the state.
Washington is a climbers paradise because of its diversity. As the most glaciated state in the lower 48, the Alpine rock and ice opportunities abound and are unmatched except Alaska. Mixed rock and ice, while at relatively low elevations, make for some of the most worthy and remote objectives anywhere.
Biking is extremely popular in the Northwest! Many Bainbridge Islanders prefer biking for their commute to Seattle on the ferry, riding from their homes to the ferry terminal or onto the ferry itself. Weekends are popular with people looking to ride the ferry and ride around for the day. We also have hundreds of miles of single track mountain bike trails throughout Kitsap County. I am an avid Mountain biker and love to show newcomers our amazing trails!
Washington has amazing skiing and riding! We get plenty of snow to keep us skiing into summer! Whether you prefer the resorts, back country or cross-country, we are truly world class. Many of our resorts offer backcountry skiing from their lifts! And don't forget Canada...We are just a day's drive from many more great resorts in British Columbia and Alberta.
